The board of public works rejected all Fifth street pavement bids in a special session and will advertise for new bids. Wooden block pavement chosen by residents is $1 higher per square yard than brick, so brick bids were set aside and creosote treated wooden block bids by Dr. Joseph Hall and Harry Bell were rejected for improper filing including lacking oil specification.

Italian Laborer Crushed At Marion Gravel Pit
Lova Crjeto a forty seven year old Italian laborer died last night at the Bethevan gravel pit near Marion after a local train crew backed sixteen cars into the pit siding. He was sheltering under a car when the cars struck it severing his right leg and causing fatal injuries. The train was crewed by Engineer Shark Conductor Burns with D W Hopkins fireman and E Jenkines and O Hyatt brake men. Crjeto was known as No 423. He died from the injuries sustained at the scene.
