William McLaeb attacked and fatally beat Joseph Uncefer on a Sunday afternoon with clear intent to kill. Uncefer was found dead hours later in the morgue, marking a brutal assault and fatal outcome in a violent case.
Ancefer killed his brother in law McClack after a drunken, enraged confrontation on Erie Avenue in Shultz Town. McClack, who fought back, pinned and pounded the old man who lay dead as police arrived. Ancefer later faced murder charges and was acquitted for killing his son years earlier.
The body of David Kirk, about fifty, was found in the Kennedy farm yard near the grape arbor after an overnight storm. No violence markings. death likely due to heart disease while intoxicated. Inquest set for 4 PM in the north courthouse. Kirk was a former Kennedy employee and cousin to local residents.
Saturday evening a runaway wagon north of town caused a wreck when a frightened horse pulled a two seated rig with two young ladies and escorts into a second rig carrying a Lucerne couple. One Lucerne woman was seriously hurt and all riders suffered bruises and shock.
Attorney George Custer travels to Koko mo to assist Mrs. Custer during the illness of her parents, providing needed support and legal guidance as the family faces a difficult time.
William Mutechler was arrested this afternoon and charged with intoxication. The incident was reported by local police.
W. B. Woods, superintendent of the Richmond division, is in the city. This visit signals coordination with local officials and attention to regional operations.
Among the assets of the absconding Treasurer Obenchain were shares of stock in southern oil wells once worth 3009 dollars. Rumors of gushers circulated but the stocks have since plunged almost to nothing. Bondsmen fear recovery may not cover the debt.
George Harness of 713 Helm Street found a horse wandering in the road in front of his residence Sunday and took it in. He notified the police, but no owner has appeared and the police do not know if one will.
