Logansport faces a court decision over paying $67,491.09 for the West Side sewer. Proponents argue the city should pay despite debt limits, while opponents claim the contract was overinflated and seek an injunction. The outcome rests entirely with the court.
County wide interest centers on the old settlers picnic to be held at Spencer park on Saturday August 18. Hon. Frederick Landis congressman from the Eleventh district will speak among other speakers. big delegations from every township are expected and a large dinner will accompany speeches and music. The event invites all city and county residents to attend with baskets.
An electrical storm yesterday hit the Disciples church steeple in Young America, damaging the side of the structure with an estimated cost of 50 dollars. Fire did not start, and no other county damage was reported despite multiple lightning strikes.
Dr Edwin P Hughes president of DePauw University fell ill during a Battle Ground camp meeting and had to return home. Dr W D Parr of Kokomo preached on Zacheus and urged more rest for Methodist workers amid overwork concerns.

Lafayette prepares for the Wabash valley powwow of the Red Men on September 4. About 20 000 members and families are expected from lodges across the state. The parade in the morning precedes county fair activities with chariot and Indian races and other attractions at the fair grounds.
Ground broken yesterday for a new Y M C A building at Seventh and Columbia in Lafayette. Mayor Durgan lifted the first shovel. Dr George W Switzer spoke. Charles B Jamison offered prayer. Projected cost stands at $50 000.
The Board of Public Works sold the dapple gray fire horse to Walter Beyers for 107.50 after six bids. Previous appraisal had been avoided drawing the higher price. Earl Stewart was the only bidder below 107.50. Other bids included D A Hyman 105, Charles S McCord 100, Burgman and Ludwig 90, John Rothermel 76.
Mrs Anna Fite was granted a divorce from her former husband after he deserted her when she refused to join him on the tent stage.
Frank H. Goff, Shelbyville grocer and Vought’s father-in-law, visited the city after receiving a letter from Albert Vought requesting his wife return home. Vought, jailed in Cass county awaiting September circuit court arraignment on chicken stealing charges, has a history of similar offenses in Kokomo. Goff suspects liquor fuels Vought’s theft habit and notes the tension between Vought and his wife as they discuss his imprisonment and possible separation.
Lodges No 52 and No 53 of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen plan their seventh annual picnic at Spencer Park next Wednesday August 15. Railroad men are invited with baskets to share as a fine program is arranged for the occasion.

Five men have been arrested in the Cripe assault inquiry but all have been released after investigation. County commissioners granted William Douglass a rebate of 71.45 for taxes paid on improperly assessed property and his wife Sarah Douglass received a 41.45 rebate after arguments by attorneys.
Newton Farr of Danville Alabama attempted to kidnap his three year old son from his maternal grandparents in Huntington. He followed the boy and carried him toward a train yard before neighbors intervened and the child was returned. Farr was arrested and released after promising not to interfere while custody is settled. His father, a Kingman Fountain County resident, joined to assist.
Sixty veterans and widows were admitted to the state soldiers' home in a single session, the largest intake in years. Seventy-five applications were filed, sixty approved, ten under investigation, six rejected. Mrs Laura Ingersoll received a diamond ring from widow residents in honor of her leadership.
The Washington fisheries department informs the Indianapolis Columbus and Southern Traction company a special car will reach Columbus, Indiana within sixty days carrying fish. Thirty gallons of black bass will be left at Columbus and sixty gallons at Edinburg to stock Flat Rock River and Blue River plus Sugar Creek. The aim is to boost fishing popularity along these streams.
County commissioners received six bids for coal for the courthouse and poor farm for winter but rejected them all. Superintendent Masters said only Pocahontas coal could be used at the poor farm, with bids sought for 200 tons of Pittsburgh coal.
The attachment case of Charles Rogan against Ed L. Thompson and Luella Taylor was dismissed in Squire Reid's court this afternoon. The defendants paid a claim of 53 dollars on a piano and it was released.

Samuel Cotner from Lovell Wyoming, visiting sister Mrs. David Barnett, spent time with deputies recalling old school days. He once taught north of town where Deputy Sheriff Ben Barnett was a pupil. Cotner later built a college at Wyoting and now has valuable holdings along the North Platte.
Congressman Brick secures a promise from the geological survey department in Washington to study the Thirteenth district and other Indiana areas for the best drainage method. M. O. Leighton, chief hydrographer, will lead the surveying work set to begin soon.
