Temperance activists press campaigns in Tipton Township to close saloons and curb alcohol sales. Proponents argue social ills linked to drinking. opponents say efforts threaten local business and personal freedom. Authorities report organized efforts with community meetings and notices.
Temperance workers canvass Tipton township aiming to dry Walton and Onward by blanket remonstrance against saloons. Remonstrances signed in hopes of driving out liquor suppliers, with possible rise of blind tiger activity and reliance on nearby Logansport or mail order if local shops close. Progress remains unclear while saloon interests doubt success.
At the international convention in St Paul an amendment to the Catholic Order of Foresters constitution bans liquor dealers and bartenders from joining. The high secretary reported 1,200 members in the United States and 26,847 in Canada, with a net yearly gain of 3,500.
Logansport Knights of Columbus followed the Ex C. national convention in Norfolk Virginia where John G Ewing of Chicago formerly a local visitor was a candidate for supreme grand knight. He lost to E L Khearne. Other officers elected include David Colwer national secretary James Flaherty deputy supreme knight B W Puckley national physician Joseph Pettus national advocate. Six directors elected.
Henry Whitesides, marshal of Galveston, pursued saloons in the city and on Sunday visited David Hulls place hearing voices. Hull spoke with him at the door, and Whitesides moved inside to find no one present.
Miss Susan Roop and relatives take a cottage at Winona Lake for ten days. Mrs Reirden and daughter Miss Mabel Delzel join. Prof aid Mrs Al Douglass and family. Edwin Shultz. Will Richardson and Funice Gardiner join next week.

Robert Herrod runs for national treasurer. Delegates arrive for a week of sessions, socials, and a final banquet at the Barnett hotel.
Western Union operators in Chicago walked off at midnight amid a looming nationwide strike. They refused to accept or forward messages from Los Angeles and awaited a formal quitting order, with fears of a general strike spreading.
Conductor Hill of the local street car line narrowly escaped death yesterday afternoon at the Third Street crossing. He ran ahead to check for a clear path, flagged the car as a passenger train roared by, then barely noticed a freight train approaching. He leapt as the pilot beam loomed and escaped unharmed.

A new rural mail carrier was added last evening at the home of Charlie Robbins 425 Wheatland Avenue. The carrier weighed eleven pounds and Robbins wore a "road smile today" as the new rural route No. 19 carrier joined the roster.
In Moensville Indiana Shirley Rasure 26 attacked his wife in bed using a conch shell. She survived the initial attack but is not expected to recover. Rasure confessed to police and is held without bail. neighbors reported domestic trouble and mistreatment.
John Hildebrandt marks a cross after his name to indicate a higher value lot. Industrial association boosters sold forty eight tots by noon with thirteen sold yesterday afternoon. Warren Ferguson and J B Winters sold nine this morning, visiting every place they got a sale or promise. Winters sold a $250 lot to John Hildebrandt who added an X to indicate a $400 lot. Report of total sales not yet completed. Purchasers listed include Shultz and Helperington.
Hallie Waldsmith filed an affidavit against Carrie Vance in Judge Graves' court alleging public curses and numerous ugly names spoken toward Waldsmith this afternoon.
Bob Gibson Roy Titus and Howard Schleete start a camp along the Wabash near Georgetown claiming the best riverside retreat. Local residents are urged to treat fish stories with caution.
George Bush, manager of the skating rink, has purchased a merry-go-round and erected it at Spencer Park for public enjoyment. The installation marks a new entertainment feature in the park.
Mrs. Jennie McCain of this city attends the Northwestern Indiana Christian conference at Argos. The convention runs from the Tth to the 22th of this month. She is accompanied by Mrs. Emma Stonebraker S. J. Beck and Rev. C. B. Kershner of Young America.
Panhandle passenger train No. 24 arriving from Chicago at 1 26 was forty minutes late this afternoon due to a hot box.
The Panhandle reports a three day span adding seventeen firemen due to engineer promotions. The railroad now employs about 150 firemen with crews running out of Logansport on eight engines.
The third advertising car of the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show is in the city today posting bills. There are eleven crew members aboard.
The September circuit court term will start soon with Judge Larry and Uncle Jolly Jacks returning. Prosecutor George W. Custer and deputy Mike Fansler anticipate a busy grand jury handling many saloon cases and major charges including Joseph Gates, Van Behee for assault with intent to murder Sol Rice, and Harry Davis for highway robbery. Also pending are several other criminal matters and civil suits like Bruce & Co. versus Frank and Carrie Douglass.
Junction City Ky August 9 Major James Morton editor of the Harda man Free Press was frightened when a clerk’s error left him in bed with a corpse. He woke to a man in his bed and after hearing remarks about sitting up with the dead he leapt up with a yell. The watchers sought explanations in the hotel office.
Bea trice Silverman wandered from home for ten hours. A boy named Matarrowski found her two miles away and brought her to the Silverman house. In gratitude Henry Silverman gave five cents, the boy earning a penny per mile and another for discovery.
James Hanna known as the Marrying Preacher died at his White country home last evening at age four. He formerly served as Carroll County commissioner.
Miss Lorena Bradnell of Quiner Ht. is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Chas Soon of 102 Michigan Avenue during a brief visit.
W. Swift Wright announces a forthcoming volume Pastime Sketches of Logansport Cass County. He writes local history to preserve pioneer tales for future generations and dedicates the work to the Cass County Historical Society seeking to inspire effort. The author notes the sketches are casual not exhaustive but accurate and entertaining for native readers.
A farmer and deputySheriff posse pursues three bank robbers after an attempted heist at Strongville Farmers and Merchants bank. One robber wounded, pursued near the Cuyahoga County line south of Cleveland. robbers retreat after a gunfight, ammo short.
Miss Golda Fitzgerald of Gallau hett college Washington visits her aunt Mrs Ellen O'Hara at 119 Chicago Street. Fitzgerald lives in San Francisco and is UC Berkeley alum who was a student when the university was partially destroyed by the quake.
