Corporal Graham refuses to haul down Old Glory at the naval recruiting station in Logansport Indiana. He vows the flag will fly as a legal American symbol despite a captain’s order and civic restrictions.
The board of public works instructed street commissioner Ed Truax to clean the fish ladder at the Tenth Street dam. Despite good condition, drift wood clogging hinders fish from moving upstream after fishermen complained.
Dispatches from Tangier report French and Spanish warships shelling villages around Casablanca causing destruction. A large reinforcement of tribesmen arrived and many were killed or wounded.
Frank Vance of Twenty First and Market streets was accused of stealing Col Cromer’s horse from Seventh street but later admitted trading with gypsies. Police found both horses in Lewisburg and Adamsboro after a mistaken chain of events, Vance to be released.
Two petitions filed with the board of public works ask the improvement of Lichteenti street from Jefferson to Toledo. Property owners claim assessments paid over a year ago and work not done. Fi Wasne & Wabash Valley Traction Co. across Erie avenue blocks progress. city attorney to investigate.
The local carpenters held a meeting in the Trades Assembly hall and formed a union. H. R. Kline of Muncie presided as the charter is awaited. About thirty members attended and officers will be elected on arrival of the charter.
Mr and Mrs Carl Green have returned after a visit at Muncie. The couple's trip concluded with their return to their home town.
R G McCloskey returns home after a Bass Lake fishing trip turned comic when Fritz supposedly hoisted a four pound bass McCloskey claimed to own. The tale ends with McCloskey dining on his own bass unknowingly as Fritz vanishes with the catch. City council passes finance review rule and a license for fortune tellers. Fortunetellers must pay five dollars per day. licenses require names and location, with one year duration.
Citizens are urged to attend a mass meeting in the north court room tomorrow night to support securing a radiator plant for Logansport and boost the local industrial boom. Promoters hold an offer by Decatur, IL in abeyance until Logansport residents show strong turnout and support.
Forty candidates will be initiated into the Red Men's lodge this evening as the group plans to grow to 500 members by year’s start. Tonight’s meeting will finalize plans for the Battle of Tippecanoe event.
Fire from a leaking gasoline stove gutted the residence at 527 Twelfth Street shortly before eight this morning. R. S. Stewart’s infant daughter was snatched from a burning room by the mother who dragged the child to safety as flames engulfed the home. Damages estimated at 250 dollars. firemen battled the blaze.
The Foresters have run a month long recruitment drive and received twenty five applications. Initiation is planned soon.
State tax board raises Cass county total assessed value with a five percent boost on Logansport property and farm lands, but not on platted lots outside Logansport. Local owners and farmers question the move as property-owner burden grows while several towns remain unchanged.
Logansport Presbytery released Rev. Rice from Monticello charge yesterday. Monticello residents opposed resignation. He will accept a charge at Albion Iowa.
Arrangements set for the Leffert family's initial reunion to be held at Lake Maxinkuckee on the eighteenth this month. Over a hundred relatives expected to attend.
George Blake a bartender at the Dunn hotel pleaded guilty before Jaédze Smith to the charge of selling liquor during illegal hours. He was fined ten dollars and costs.
The city civil engineer will purchase 1400 sewer brick from Western Brick Company in Danville Illinois this morning to repair sewers. A sewer behind Eli Greensfelder's clothing store alley is reported in terrible condition.
The Indiana Dental Society led by Dr Bozer of this city prepares for the annual meeting at Peru on September 1. Dr Ed Race of this city will present a talk titled Extraction Under Sommoform.
The labor day committee reports 12000 circulars and posters printed and will begin posting city and county locations immediately. The celebration promises to be the largest event in labor circles ever held in Indiana.
This morning a freight car ran over the新 Logansport and Lafayette branch of Fort Wayne Traction company. A merry go round stationed at Spencer Park was transported in the car to Delphi.
German singing groups from Evansville Fort Wayne and Terre Haute attended the Tenth Toediana saengertest in Terre Haute. The next fest will be in Fort Wayne in 1908 after ballots favor Terre Haute’s welcome.
Local C B L members from Logansport prep for the state convention to be held in Huntington on August 13. Peter Smith leads the city lodge as delegates arrive at 8:30 AM and attend services at St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church with Father Miller speaking. The day closes with a Knights of Columbus hall session and an evening musical program featuring choirs from the city’s two churches and performances by Prof. Torbog and the Becker orchestra.
The Logans port and Lafayette Traction company sold the first tickets this morning at the local office. Agent Beal sold the inaugural ticket to J. H. Renner of Denver Indiana who planned to travel to Delphi.
