July health report shows death rate down by four and 15 contagious disease cases, an epidemic tailing off from June. Measles dropped to eight cases and smallpox to two, with twenty one deaths last month and June births at twelve, indicating births typically lag deaths by about fifteen.
Angela Napper of Council Bluffs Iowa, enraged by her sister Gertrude's jest about her piano performance, retrieved two loaned shells, loaded a gun in an upper room, and fatally shot herself with the muzzle at her breast. Before dying she reportedly said Good, that is all I wanted to know, her last words.

Shorts will represent the local branch at the national convention in Peoria IL September 2 to 6 with Jacob Hinkle as alternate. All office employees belong to the association.

The three grocers J. H. Foley & Co. Henry F. Crompp Frederick W. Klein and Homer Closson faced affidavits after pure food inspectors found lard adulterated with beef suet and Closson sold adulterated iodine tincture. Atlantic City jokers who stole a barber pole and sent it to Ned Houston of an Ohio town as a souvenir have learned the pole has reached a vast city in Chile South America. The coffin shaped box has traveled from Chile to New York Boston and other U S cities while the costs were paid by proud recipients believing the box hid a valuable gift.

In Boone Louisiana on August 1 George Tipler and his son drowned in a well while a house party awaited dinner. Mrs Tipler collapsed upon hearing the news and remains hospitalized from the shock. The father and boy fell thirty feet into water after a pipe problem led to a search. Attempts to recover the bodies were unsuccessful.
