County commissioners opened bids for twenty five voting machines. Only two firms submitted offers. National Voting Machine Co at 600 each and United States Standard Voting Machine Co at 700. No contract awarded pending council consultation and county finances.
Christian T. Murray of Royal Center was killed when a seven foot ditch caved in while he worked on the Diffenbaugh ditch one mile south and one and a half miles east of Bippus. Two or three others were trapped up to their shoulders but rescued. Murray, 56, leaves two children and was regarded as an expert worker. Funeral held after remains sent to Grass Creek.
The Logansport & Wabash Valley Gas company plans to abandon natural gas in Peru Wa bash and Logansport this winter and spend 500000 on a new fuel gas plant to supply all three cities at 1 per thousand. If costs are lower or higher than expected the rate will be adjusted accordingly based on comparison with similar towns.
Receiver Hugh W. Ogden filed suit in Massachusetts Supreme Court against Ferdinand Borges and seventeen life insurance companies to determine if Borges invested Ubero funds with them. The action signals broader aims to sue any officer or director potentially tied to improper funds and seek refunds plus relief from the court.

Miss Maude Geppinger a Logansport school teacher suffered a needle wound while sewing at home. She refused anesthetic and underwent an incision to extract the needle with forceps, the object found near the bone and removed safely.
In Squire Kelas court Mrs. Belle Dickey filed an attachment against John Murphy of the Panhandle for a board bill. A second man named John Murphy appeared claiming to owe nothing, revealing two men with the same name employed by the railroad. The company held both men’s wages until a court order allowed the correct Murphy to draw his pay.
Emory Moore of Montezuma Indiana opened a trotline and found a pearl valued around $1000 by experts. It is the second Wabash River freshwater pearl of similar value found in two months, with the latest specimen deemed finer. Pearl hunters grow popular as locals note Wabash pearls fetch high prices in Paris.
The local machinists union will hold an open meeting at Trades Assembly Hall on Thursday evening. Will Robinson sixth vice president of the National Machinists Union will attend as a guest. It is the first open gathering the union has held in some time.
Mrs. Dora Gore and her daughter Gertie from Chicago visit Mr. and Mrs. A Nuburger on Linden Avenue. Mrs. Gore is confined to the house with a badly sprained limb.
The Cass County Sunday School Association plans a Thursday August 10 picnic at Spencer park bringing together workers and pupils from all county schools. A program of speeches music and a grand picnic spread is promised with baskets urged from every attendee. Superintendents are urged to coordinate with teachers and officers to ensure broad participation and a successful event.
George Miles becomes manager of the Murdock hotel effective today. Planned changes aim to make the hotel more attractive while the bar and cigar stand remain under current management. Heffley & Keeh continue ownership of the establishment.
A Wabash train struck an old dapple gray horse three miles east of the city overnight and buried the animal at dawn. Police and railroad investigators seek the owner, with no results yet, amid questions about how the horse came to be on the track and whether it broke from a barn.
