Sugar Factories Progress at Lovan Plant Nears Operation
Work at the Lovan sugar factory advances rapidly with about 150 men in two shifts. No fixed start date for machinery movement yet, but expected soon after November 1. Beets stored in sheds, several hundred tons hauled in, and beets reported in excellent condition. Joseph A. West of Ogden visits the site constantly as contractors push to finish before snowfall. Short Line rail spur loads up with supplies. Roy Heeles in charge of finances distributes thousands monthly, noted for business acumen. A local landowner, previously yielding 300 bushels of wheat, planted beets this year and expected to yield 170 in sugar beet revenue. Beets require little more work than wheat. machinery and revenue improvements are substantial, while a small error in phrasing remains evident.
