A Smooth Game at San Douglas Market
A stranger tried a minor scam on several merchants Thursday starting with San Douglas. He bought a small item for twenty cents, then offered a twenty dollar gold piece. Sam, serving, gave ten dollars in gold and the remaining change in silver. The stranger proposed exchanging ten dollars in silver for ten in gold, but Sam lacked gold and offered a one dollar bill. The stranger offered to take it all and keep the twenty dollar piece, but Sam recalled the ten dollars belonged to him and halted the spoof. He tried other stores but failed to dupe them as well.
