Anthrax Thought Under Control Says Thaxton
San Saba County authorities moved quickly to halt a potential anthrax outbreak after nine head of cattle and horses died and twelve were treated. Vaccination and quarantine measures have reduced risk, with about 600 animals vaccinated in the affected northwest area across the Colorado River from Mills County. Dr. Thaxton and Dr. Thaxton of College Station led the effort with state veterinary support.

Roadwork on Highway 81 begins north of Cherokee
Preliminary work started on five plus miles of flexible base road on Highway 81 north from the Liana County line as a first step to topping. Bids for the unfinished 2.8 miles north of Cherokee were to be opened in Austin. The Red Bluff bridge over the Colorado near San Saba is being repaired and Highway 74 right of way negotiations continue.
