Talley Student Shannon Talley Mourned In Llano Funeral

Shannon Talley daughter of Francis and Mrs Talley and sister Beth died at Llano Valley Spring age 23? The Llano High School senior class attended the funeral held at Valley Spring Cemetery with Rev Baker officiating. Pallbearers and flower girls were named among classmates relatives and community members.

New Variety and Dry Goods Store Planned Near River

A new store is planned to open within two months on the north side of the river. The 60 by 60 foot building will be on the Milton Wiley lot facing Highway No. 81 and occupied by Charles Ratliff who will also continue operating his south side store.

Hotel Llano Sees New Management Installment

Effective Wednesday March 1 Miss Augusta Weston of San Antonio takes over Hotel Llano management. Mrs Kate Wallace and Miss Irene Wallace have left for Austin after two or more years in charge. W A Buckley and J L Jenners join at the receiving desk. The hotel is being redecorated. Mr and Mrs Orrell Cone sell their Gillespie county ranch and move back to Llano.

Justice of the Peach J P Mayes Celebrates 81st Birthday

Justice J P Mayes marked his 81st birthday with quiet notices from his children and friends. Mrs LT Kuykendall returned home to Llano from Temple after five weeks in the hospital. Miss Helen Hicks spent the weekend with her parents in McKinney.

Fraser Funeral Rites Held for Lawson L Fraser

Fraser funeral services were held at the Walker residence for Lawson Lee Fraser who died February 22 in St. Marys hospital Port Arthur from influenza and pneumonia. Born June 16 1898 he was married to Miss Juanita Walker in March 1937 and leaves a wife and an eight year old son. Rev W P Ray officiated with interment by Home Furniture Co. pallbearers named.

Latham Jule Ben Lathan Pontotoe Pioneer Dies in Pontotoe

Latham Jule Ben Lathan a 74 year old resident of Pontotoe died at Liana hospital at 8 30 Monday morning. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Pontotoe with Rev FP Rue detzky of Castell Methodist Church officiating. Interment was by Miles Battery. Survived by daughter Mrs Jake Alterman of San Antonio and son John O Latham of Pontotoe. A fuller life sketch to appear next week in The News.

Death of G. J. Harwell at Santa Rosa Hospital

G J Harwell died in Santa Rosa hospital San Antonio after seven weeks as a patient. Born September 12 1853 in Tyler Texas he lived most of his life in Llano County. Survived by three children J Leslie Harwell Claude Harwell and Gertrude Harwell, two brothers one sister and two grandchildren. Funeral held at Hoover's Valley cemetery with Rev Aufderbaar officiating. The report notes strong local support for 4-H pig club funding and lists many donors and benefactors.

Chism Funeral Rites Held for Mrs. John A. Chism

Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon for Mrs. John A. Chism born Capi tol a Neely in Tennessee on September 4, 1863. She lived in Texas communities including Moulton Llano and was a Baptist church worker. Surviving relatives include her brother Marion Neely of Sheridan Wyoming and three Tangamely nieces. Interment followed at New Brifton cemetery with local pallbearers listed.

The Llano High auditorium hosts a three act mystery comedy produced by the Junior Pioneers this Friday night March 2. Students rehearse under a new drama coach as a real mystery interrupts the rehearsal turning the show into a unique, engaging performance.

Funeral services were held for George Edgar Reager a respected Liano county resident who died Tuesday at his Valley Spring home. He married Alice Woods in 1888 and left one son Clint with siblings and many relatives. Clifford Martin Buys Polled Hereford Heifer Calves

Llano County rancher Clifford Martin and his father Ray Martin own a large registered Polled Hereford herd. They purchased three registered heifer calves from Sargent and Stevens in Brownwood: Princess Domino 68th Duchess Domino 16th and Princess Domino 57th. Miss Ossie Mae Lanier of Hunt spent the weekend with her mother in Llano.

The High School Mystery Excites Local Auditorium Goers

William Morrigan Kuykendall longtime Llano county peace officer and cattle rancher died in San Antonio after a long illness. Born 1860 in Lee County he moved to Round Mountain then Llano. Survived by wife six children and several relatives. funeral held in San Antonio with Presbyterian rites and burial at San Jose cemetery.

The Babyhead Parent-Teacher Association held a Thursday meeting in February at their regular place. Activities included minutes, a talk by Miss Zora Byfield on the founding of the PTA, and a reading by Mrs. Joe R. Smith. Refreshments followed. A basket picnic was planned for March 16.

Albert Ricketson of Pedernales Electric Cooperative announces bids opened for about 1,400 miles of rural electric lines with Brown and Root Inc. of Austin as apparent low bidder. A directors meeting will decide contract award subject to Rural Electrification Administration approval. Llano 4-H Swine Feeders Win District Honors

Llano County 4-H Swine Feeders won first place in District No. 7 of a 48 statewide contest by the Texas Swine Feeders Association. The group earned honorable mention statewide for their year’s work, introduced high grade Duroc Jersey and Hampshire breeding stock, and cared for over fifty registered hogs by thirty members. They also earned accolades at the Dallas Fair and Llano Livestock show while teaching ration balancing and hog lot setup.
