War bonds debated as patriot sacrifice in Winchell piece
Reprinted from the New York Mirror Walter Winchell argues against the idea that buying war bonds is a sacrifice. He says civilians owe a debt to soldiers and the armed forces fund, noting the government pays interest on bullets and that those who fight bear costs. He urges support for bonds to avoid facing soldiers’ eyes and mocks reluctance to buy.
