Sugar prices rise impact on fruit canning in Llano County
The article notes sugar shortages are not expected but prices have climbed with a 10 pound sack around 1.60 in Llano. Higher sugar costs have reduced fruit sales for home canning and freezing, with declines in peaches plums and apricots. USDA data suggests steady per capita sugar availability in 1963, and substitutions may cut calories but not end product quality. June brings Llano County 4H and community activities, peach ripening, and new peach drink testing.
