Mrs. E. Larrimore reports Llano County Home Demonstration Club members enjoyed two days at Buchanan Dam camp with Thelma Casey visiting. The outing rejuvenated members, awards were given for Rural Neighborhood Progress, and plans for next year’s encampment begin.
Miss Joyce Helbert and Oliver B. Altizer announce their approaching marriage. Miss Helbert a 1957 graduate of Scott and White School of Nursing Temple. Altizer a Cherokee high school graduate and Tarleton alum studying at Southwest Texas State College. Wedding planned August 26 at Avenue G Church of Christ Temple.
Four Llano girls Linda Bigger Minnie Sue Alten Mary Goble and Sandra Wilkerson attended Episcopal Camp Capers at Waring Texas for ten days The session theme Stewardship in Christian Living featured swimming ball games handcraft and study courses Rt Rev Harl Dicis Suffragan Bishop of West Texas served as camp chaplain Rev Edw J Haffner Grace Church was hospitalized briefly and could not teach as planned
Mr and Mrs Ernest Spiekerman announce the birth of their son Wayne Earl on June 12 in Honolulu Hawaii. It is the couple first child. The mother formerly Miss Peggy Oestreich of Llano.
Miss Sue Houston of Ft Worth visits Mr and Mrs T G Houston. Mr and Mrs Clark Reed of New York City visit Llano. Mrs Reed is the former Elsie Jordan. Mrs John Schwessler of Castell visits for weeks with granddaughter Ruth Schmidt, daughter of Rev and Mrs B C Schmidt of Eagle Pass. Mr and Mrs Eric Ray of San Antonio visit Mr and Mrs Eugene Turbiville and Mrs Croom and others this week.
Miss Shirley Ann Starks and Bill Ross exchanged marriage vows at the Baptist Church in Llano on June 8. The bride, daughter of Mrs. August W. Starks, is a Mason High School graduate and dental assistant from San Antonio. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ross, is a Llano High School alum and four-year Air Force veteran employed at the CAA Station in San Antonio. The couple will reside in San Antonio.
Valley Spring Church of Christ held a Thursday social at the community center after a Bible study. Mrs. Jamie Hemphill was honored with a shower. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Sheerer of Liano and Mr. and Mrs. Clay Thirston and sons of Fredonia.
About 65 high school girls in the FHA program under Mrs. Ann Shipp finish a summer home economics course. Topics include child care, cooking, gardening, freezing foods, sewing, home management, and yard improvements in the current building as the department moves to a new one. Freshmen and sophomores earn half credit for two summer projects. A party and open house are tentatively planned for late summer.
Four-H members intending to attend the summer camp must send their fee and registration forms by July 1. Those who have not received a letter about camp should notify promptly. A Home Demonstration Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday July 3 in the court room.
Betty Lou Smith married Cecil Joe Scott in a simple Saturday ceremony at Burnet Methodist Church. Rev. William Parrish officiated as Tammy Crawford and Raymond Brewer attended the couple. The bride, a local beauty operator, wore a white linen dress with pink carnation corsage.
