Llano Chamber Considers Future Amid Budget Woes

The Llano chamber of commerce directors meet Monday to plan a membership drive and address a woefully small budget that has reduced salaries and weakened support. They seek ideas to improve town appearance and focus on local needs while inviting input from residents.

Automobile Accidents Reported in County

Edsel Harlow and Melvin Draper, both of Llano, were injured when the 1951 Chevrolet they rode in went out of control about five miles south of Llano on Highway 16. Harlow suffered a broken collarbone and chest injuries and was transferred to Temple. Draper had a broken arm and injuries to a foot and abrasions. Richard Gayle Victory, 20, was injured when his 1957 Oldsmobile left the road and overturned three miles east of Llano on Highway 29. Victory was taken to Llano hospital. injuries not believed serious. Vivian Wilkes Daugherty, 48, of Marble Falls, damaged her 1958 Plymouth crossing the Colorado River bridge at Kingsland when ice covered the bridge caused a skid. Vehicle damage estimated at $500-$600. no injuries.

Corky Virdell Hurt Opening Gulf Storage Pumps

Corky Virdell lost two fingers and part of a third of his left hand when attempting to unlock stuck gun pumps at Gulf storage tanks Saturday morning. Electricity and equipment hazards were cited in the incident.

Charles Hoffman Named Top Conservationist

Charles Hoffman received the 1958 Outstanding Conservationist award for Llano County at a Llano Lions Club luncheon presented by Carlos Ashley. Judges included Edgar James Moss Clayton Stribling and others from local farm and conservation groups. The event noted Hoffman's ranch and those of Sam Rabb and Hudson Fowler as exemplary, with slides depicting soil conservation work from 1937 and 1958.

Library Open Friday Mornings in Llano County

Llano County Library will open every Friday morning from 6 to 12:30 starting tomorrow with Mrs. Margaret Tarver as librarian. The outlying Friday service aims to replace parts of the Bookmobile Demonstration Unit, transferred after a year serving Llano Burnet and Blanco counties.

Castell Native to Lead Methodist Revival at Local Church

Dr. Ben F. Lehmberg, Castell-born Methodist minister, will conduct revival services February 8 to 13 at the local Methodist Church with Dr. Ryan leading Feb. 8. Lehmberg, a former president of multiple rotary and ministerial groups, serves in Colorado Springs and authored "What’s Right With The World?" He and his wife have two sons.

Dance Scheduled By Youth Council

A Saturday night dance from 8 to 12 at the Yellowjackets Nest features music by the Highlanders Orchestra of Fredericksburg. The Junior Board of Directors of the Youth Center arranged the event and are selling tickets. All members and guests are urged to attend for recreation. Rev. M. M. Bond is chairman of the Center.

1959 Llano Rodeo Dates Set

The 1959 Llano Rodeo was scheduled for June 4 5 6 after a Tuesday meeting at the chamber of commerce office. Rodeo committee members include Lester Inman representing the Llano Lions Club Hap Sawyer for the Llano Junior Chamber of Commerce Sam Rabb from the school board and C D McDonald for the Llano Chamber of Commerce. The four organizations sponsor the event.

Correction on Kelso Case Attorneys for Llano City

The Llano City has not announced counsel for the defense in Kelso vs City of Llano. Carlos Ashley of Llano has been asked to serve. Attorneys listed previously for the defense are now listed with L. L. Bruhl to represent the plaintiff in the case. The city maintains compensation insurance for emergencies.

Winkel Named Ambassador for San Antonio Stock Show

Raymond Winkel of Llano accepts appointment as Official Ambassador to the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Exposition for February 13 to 22. He will carry show literature and ticket blanks for the Worlds Championship Rodeo. Dale Robertson stars in the rodeo performances nightly February 14 through March 2 with matinees on weekends.
