P A Leffingwell, traffic manager, and the Llano Commercial Club push for rail rate reform to ease Llano stone costs. They note Texas shipments pay higher freight than from other states and cite prior Commission action that lowered one stone rate. Leffingwell plans further inquiries in Llano.
G Doran a prominent dealer writes Pam Norton planning a June convention with a drawn up ball team. He bets Linno’s delegation must back the effort to show real baseball and claim the team could reach ten thousand percent class. Silas Izard of San Angelo and H C Nichols, active in granite trade, visit Llano with stone shipments as the Western Granite Works expands.
Ben Stella of Gonzales a progressive Texas dealer and manufacturer visited Llano for granite business last week. He placed orders with local dealers for more of the Llano stone. Will Collins Jr. was in San Antonio during the past week in the interest of the Universal Granite Company.
The Badu park on the north side of the river will receive attention this year and be prepared for campers this spring and summer. Granite dealers from several states may camp here and look after purchasing stone. The park will be used in June during the convention. B L Bruhl of Smith Brothers Granite Works toured Dallas and other points to promote the granite business and discussed plans with Leffingwell who will visit Llano next Wednesday February 11.
A. G. Mueller visited Gainesville and compared Llano granite with Vermont stone in two large cemetery monuments. He deemed Llano granite superior in quality and urged recognition of Llano quarries as producing the best material in the United States despite Vermont granite’s long-standing reputation.
A C and P Grayr Granite Company received a carload order for stone and delivered within forty eight hours. They prioritized speed by reassigning workers to meet Smiths Brothers order as well. H Griffin of Austin visited Llano dealers and placed an order for Llano stone for his plant. Llano Granite is advertised as a durable builder.
Mr Leffingwell seeks unity of Llano business men and dealers to oppose high freight charges on Texas stone. He urges residents to inform the West Texas Chamber of Commerce, stressing a united, determined effort to secure fair rates and advance state progress. The passage urges collective action against unjust charges.
