Funeral services were set for 2 30 this afternoon for Alvin Bauman 26 a ranchman of Valley Spring who died Wednesday from measles and pneumonia at his parents home He leaves a wife Ethel Dees and is to be interred at Cole Creek cemetery under Miles Buttery supervision A longer notice will appear next week.
Dr. Joe Sheppard of San Antonio becomes associate with Dr. H J Hoerster in Llano effective February 1. The Sheppards and their infant daughter rented a house from L C Brown. Sheppard, a UT Austin graduate, recently interned at M and S Hospital in San Antonio. Mrs Sheppard, formerly Miss Mary Ruth Casheer, is related to Mrs Howard Wallace and her mother Mrs Casheer of Liberty Hill was formerly Miss Kate McInnis.
Dr. Clifford Watkins son of Mr and Mrs W W Watkins of Llano has been transferred from Manila to Cebu on the island of Cebu where he now heads the public health station. The Watkins establish residence on a nearby islet and remain among the few white residents in the area.
Mrs. Amelia Cummins and husband sold Block 50 and part of Block 69 Barler Addition Llano to J. H. Leverett for 135 dollars per deed records. Mrs. Ida B. Norton of San Antonio visited Llano relatives. A H Wilson of San Antonio weekend guest. Mr and Mrs Willborn Robinson of Austin visited relatives in Llano. Also a political notice criticizes a child labor amendment urging rejection by the state legislature.
Fire believed caused by a defective fire started Thursday morning at the residence of Mrs. Ray mond Hargrove near the old Kansas City quarry on Mason road. She was outside washing clothes as flames consumed the dwelling. Only a mattress three quilts and clothing were saved. No insurance covered the home or its contents.
Last rites were conducted in Llano for Earl Lindsay Avery a noted cattle dealer who died in an Oklahoma auto accident. Born July 21, 1888, he left a widow Bewla, three children, a sister Lena Osbourne and four brothers. Funeral was at Llano Methodist with interment in Llano cemetery. many out of town visitors attended.
Miss Elaine Loveland directs Coast to Coast sponsored by the Liana Lions club to be presented at the High School auditorium on Thursday and Friday February 11 and 12. The cast features local talent and Blaine Loveland holds an A B degree from Idaho Southern Branch and studied dance with Cornish School Seattle and Novikoff in Chicago.
The last step before payment of soil conservation grants is signing the applications this week. County residents are urged to sign at their local offices or designated sites with a schedule: Feb 8 Lone Grove Templeton's store Tow Farma Store Bluffton Barnet store Kingsland Barnett store. Feb 9 Valley Spring Post Office Elbow Schoolhouse Field Creek Postoffice. Feb 10 Praire Mountain Schoolhouse Castell Dalchau store.
A letter from Earl Brown, husband of the Smiths' daughter, describes Louisville floods. He witnessed coffins on boxcars and several bodies in streets as he moved his family to Chattanooga. He estimates about two thousand deaths in Louisville from the disaster.
M. R. Bentley from the A. and M. extension service will visit Llano County next Monday and Tuesday to assist in the county terracing program. Inspections and terrace checks will occur in several communities. Those needing soil conservation help should consult the county agent this week.
Liano County 4H clubs teach sub irrigation tile to ease irrigation and cut costs. Boys manufacture and distribute the tiles at 2 cents per foot and offer to assist in installation. Farmers may contact local 4-H members to begin the project.
A seven pound boy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrayce Leverett on January 26. The family welcomed the newborn with celebrations and good health reported by the attending physician.
The Llano county and city earned about 2000 from occupation, beer, and liquor taxes last year. County totals show 992.50 and city 980 in occupation taxes. An unpaid tax of 15 is charged per marble table and taxes on beer 12.50 and package houses 25. Sheriff warns padlock for unpaid tables.
Llano County and city property owners paid more than 81000 in total taxes. County Collector Elmon Stewart received 67975.98 and City Collector J J Backnes obtained 13339.24 to cover state county and school district obligations, plus about 1000 in delinquent taxes. City polling declined with 347 poll taxes, while county receipts averaged 80 percent and city 77 percent.

County Judge J W Currie performed two marriage ceremonies last week. On Sunday A Plant of the Fitzsimons ranch wed Miss Ellen Nobles daughter of County Commissioner Luther Nobles. On Monday February 1 Judge Currie joined John Shackelford and Miss Delia McNeillman in matrimony.
Misses Jane Foster and Jane Wat kins narrowly escaped death when a gas explosion ripped the Linden Foster residence at Tetchville. The two were unconscious in the kitchen but suffered only minor burns after Clarence Ford found them. Authorities suspect accumulated gas under the house triggered the blast. a gas plant had been recently installed. The Fosters were away when it occurred.
Local committee sent a telegram to A L Smith urging Llano County to be included in the 1987 range conservation program. They note 95 percent of Llano is range land generating 90 percent of county income and call for terracing dams tanks improved ranching practices. They report heavy infestation by Mesquite cedar prickly pear finger cactus and bee brush and request urgent consideration. The reply says the state committee is attempting to include the entire state.
A series of news writing schools will be held in District No 7 next week. Mrs Mionie Fisher Cunningham, extension service editor, will lead instruction. Agents from southern counties attend Kee on Thursday February 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
