Largest 183 Carat Diamond Arrives on Cunard Aquitania
A perfect straw colored diamond weighing 182.15 carats, claimed as the largest and most expensive solitaire brought to the United States, arrived on the Cunard liner Aquitania from Southampton. Owned by the former sultan of Morocco, it was previously the central gem in the jeweled turban of Abdel Hafid and carried to the U.S. by Frederick Whitram of the Mercantile Hawk of America as selling agent.
