Piggly Wiggly Dinner Set Won By Local Woman

Mrs Mat Dees the 18 owner of a Piggly Wiggly dinner set won a Saturday prize after a beans in a jar guessing contest. The display drew crowd interest and the jar held 3525 beans with Mya Devs's guess at 3520 off by five beans.

Salesman Accepts Post With Local Granite Firm

M D Hamontree has accepted a position as sales manager with Lone Star Granite Works. He succeeds the late Harry M Nichols and returns to his Georgia quarry town roots. Hamontree’s career centers on the stone business and he will travel across the state for the firm.

Thanksgiving Quiet Day in Llano Town

Thanksgiving passed with little observed observance in Llano. Most residents left town to hunt or picnic, taking advantage of warm weather while business houses remained shut. Streets were sparsely populated, and activity was uncommon for the holiday.

Llano Lady Secures Deer License For Season

Mrs. W. J. Saunders, among Thanksgiving hunters, returned from J. G. Allred ranch with a large sixteen point buck. The item notes her license is secured, so she will hunt squirrels for the rest of the season.

Mother Mary A. Wilson Dies in Austin at 90

Mrs. Mary A. Wilson, mother of Alf Wilson of Llano, died at St. Davids hospital in Austin last Saturday noon at age ninety. She was a lifelong Methodist and known for her Christian character. Funeral services were held Sunday at Leander cemetery, Rev. Fisher officiating, with grandsons acting as pallbearers. Interment followed in the family lot.

Llano County CWA workers aid roads and schools drive

One hundred ninety three men are on CWA projects in Llano County this week, with 114 country jobs and 79 city jobs. Paymaster Allen S. Johnson reports checks totaling 2366.25 issued last week as relief circulates locally.

The Baby Head Parent-Teacher Association met in regular session last Friday night. The program included songs by school children, multiple readings, quartets, and a planned entertainment committee for the next meeting.

Health Supervisors for C. W. A. Work Stationed Here

Two health and sanitation supervisors under the C W A and state health department are based in town. Paul J. Gresham, district supervisor, will serve Llano and surrounding counties. Don Bullock is county supervisor, operating from the Masonic building under Mrs. Clay Fowler.

Calf Weighing Tour Yields Gains for 472 Animals

The weighing tour of 472 calves shows gains with Jamen Epperson’s calf posting the highest daily gain at 3.1 pounds. Marcus Smith’s calf is close behind at 3.0 pounds daily, Travis Neuman’s calf at about 2.8 pounds daily, as feeders note strong results and plan a December ration of ground grain meat mix oats and sweet feed.

Federal cattle sales plan outlined by the committee

The Federal Emergency Relief Administration allotted Liano county 106 cutter cows to be bought at Austin for relief work in Texas. The Livestock Control Committee met with the County Agent to plan purchases. Permits and shipment dates will be issued in advance with final allotment set for December 12.

The Valley Spring Parent-Teacher Association met on the previous Friday night December 1 for its regular session. A short program by school children and local participants showcased the group’s active work for the school and community welfare.

Doctor J. E. Dorbandt Operated in San Antonio

J E Dorbandt who had been ill for several days was taken to San Antonio last Monday and underwent an operation that night. His wife returned home yesterday and reported him progressing well and likely to resume practice within a week. Roy B Inks and Worth Peterson traveled to Houston Wednesday to inspect a new Ford car now on display there and soon to be sold by local distributors.

Christmas Turkey Market Opens in Llang

The Christmas turkey market opened in Llang on Wednesday with prices about seven and a half cents. Several turkeys moved from the Thanksgiving market, awaiting home consumption. Local residents Patras ber and John Atkins visited relatives during Thanksgiving.

Mrs Onley Moss Killed in Auto Accident Near Oklahoma City

Mrs Onley Moss died instantly Friday when the car she rode in with Mrs C R Van Valkenburg and four children collided with a truck after a blowout near Oklahoma City. Truck driver K C Killingsworth of Vernon Texas also died. two men in the truck and Mrs Van Valkenburg plus her eight year old daughter were injured. Mrs Moss, born Nell Johnson, formerly lived in Kingfisher and Chickasha before moving to Oklahoma City where the funeral was held. Her husband, the youngest son of the late J R Moss, survives with siblings in the county.
