County Agents To Be Honored At County-Wide Party Saturday

A county wide party at 7 30 Saturday night in the Methodist Church basement for adults and the fire hall for youths honors retiring county agent T D Tanksley and welcomes new agent Louis Amsler Jr from Brazos and Jim Wells counties. 4 H leaders and others organize with Mrs Charles Reese and Harriet Smathers guiding activities and refreshments provided by home demonstration clubs. Amsler begins duties this month as associate animal husbandman for Texas A M Extension Services after earning a BA and later a master’s degree.

Prairie Mountain Road Priority Discussed in Llano County

Local business leaders and the Llano County group urged Ed Bluestein to visit Llano to discuss adding the Prairie Mountain road to the county's next road building phase. Bluestein indicated the Kingsland Road would take priority and proposed future consideration for Prairie Mountain if funds permit.

Tragic Thanksgiving Week Collisions Kill Four in County

Two fatal incidents during Thanksgiving week claim four lives. A head on crash on State Highway 29 near Buchanan Dam killed Edith Baugh 39 of Kingsland Howard Stewart 48 of Burnet and Olin Kendricks 35 of Houston. Stewart rode alone in one car while Baugh and Kendricks were in the other. Baugh owned the Starlight Lounge at Lake Buchanan. Bodies were taken to Edgar Burnet and Clement Burnet funeral homes. In a separate hunting accident J J Bird 35 Garland was struck by a bullet while sitting with his wife watching for deer near Simona Ranch. Bird died from shoulder and neck wounds. Bossong Dallas 34 fired at a deer. Bird died. Bird survived by his wife and four children.

Llano Chamber Sets Holidays for 1957

Llano Chamber of Commerce directors approved the 1957 holiday schedule for merchants with observances on July 4 Labor Day Sept 2 Veterans Day Thanksgiving Nov 28 Christmas Dec 25 26 and New Year Jan 1. Outgoing directors Taylor Siridell George Strachan Randolph Leifeste Jim Rusche and Elmo Stotts named a nominating committee for new directors. Four new directors will be elected in December and take office in January. The January meeting will elect officers for 1957. Henry Buttery was president in 1956.

District Boy Scout Officers Elected At Llano Tuesday

Hans Hannemann of Fredericksburg was elected 1957 chairman of the Hill Country District Boy Scout leaders at the second banquet held Tuesday night in the Llano school cafeteria. Other officers named include Bob Pearson Johnson City Rev M D Lowry Llano Joel Johnson Mason and more. Guest speaker Rodney J Kidd of Austin urged more adult leaders.

Ace Kincheloe Elected VFW Post Commander at Llano

Ace Kincheloe was elected and installed as VFW post commander at a Monday night meeting in the Hotel Llano basement. He succeeds Lea Moran Sr. Other officers include L D Trammell, Cal B Barnett, Lee Wimberley, Dr Dan Hoerster, N A Talley, Lee B Moran Sr, Haigette Fischer, and John A Moore. The next meeting is set for 7 36 p m Monday December 17 at the hotel basement.

Llang Lights City Streets For Christmas Display

Courthouse square and Ford and Beasemer Streets glow with new Christmas lights installed this week by city utility workers. The lights will create a festive scene in Liang when switched on later this week.

Funds are nearly raised for the ninth annual Jaycee Junior Livestock Show and Western Party. Local and out of town acts, school performances, and prize events are planned with supper served at the ranchroom and a program in the high school gym.

Liano Band Heads to Austin for Region VI Contest

The Liano band travels to House Park Austin for the Region VI Inter scholastic League marching contest from 1 to 4 30 pm. C B Beene says 18 bands compete. Bands are inspected for dress and instrument condition before performing a marching drill. Majorettes compete in twirling Patsy Harlow and Marilyn Rothmann enter solos. Postmaster Urges Early Christmas Mailings and Clear Addresses

Postmaster A P Box urges earlier mailing to ensure on time delivery. He advises clear return and recipient addresses on all labels and cards, use three cent postage for first class mail, and include extra address labels. Mail out-of-town cards now and by December 10th. local mail should start at least a week before Christmas.

Grain aid program draws 571 applications in Llano County

The emergency drought feed program received 67 grain applications filed with the Llano County ASC before the deadline December 3. Applications totaled 10,702,000 pounds with many last minute submissions. Mr. and Mrs. Omer Martin of Pocatello Idaho visit son-in-law and daughter Mr. and Mrs. Wilma Larremore and family.

Brownie Troop Makes Christmas Presents at Scout Meeting

Fifteen members of Brownie troop met Monday at the Scout Hat with Mia to make Christmas presents. Edward Unffner and Mrs Ja El Shropshire attended. Karen Sue Stumfall and Jeannine Raesener led activities, with Mrs Taylor Virdell providing refreshments.

Llano Boy Hurt In Accident

Malcolm Long a Llano High School student and son of Sherman and Mrs Long was injured in a hunting accident Monday. A gun discharged while he was cleaning the weapon, striking him in the tip of the finger. He was treated locally for a minor wound.
