A report notes Boston’s fame as a bean center but that city ranks low in consumption. Agricultural statistics show dried bean production rising from 7.6 million 100 pound bags in 1922 to 12.7 million bags last year.
The region saw prolonged rainfall from Monday night through Tuesday, with additional showers yesterday and breezy cool conditions. Last week featured fair, warm weather. The first fall frost arrived Monday morning. Forecast calls for unsettled end of the month and blustery start to the new month. More than half an inch of rain was reported Monday night.
Peg lamps of German origin appeared in the middle of the Fifteenth century. The lamps lacked a base and used a peg protruding from the reservoir bottom to lock into a socket holder, transforming the candle holder into a lamp.
