Howard Evans grew an Egyptian cotton stalk in his yard on East Main Street. The plant, likely uncommon in the county, sprouted from a dried stalk sent by his brother Raymond while in Texas. It produced white flowers that faded to yellow and lavender, soon after frost ended its brief growth.
