Pennsylvania's Great Precultural Wealth
Pennsylvania's farm economy in 1925 showcased extensive land, diverse crops, and strong markets. The state led in buckwheat, ranked highly in potatoes, hay, grapes, tobacco, apples, wheat, and oats, with high corn and winter wheat yields. Specialized crops include tobacco in Lancaster, celery in Tioga, asparagus in Bucks, grapes in Evie, and mushroom production near Philadelphia. Farm labor challenges spurred mechanization, improved varieties, and pure bred livestock growth, with counties reporting notable potato and butterfat yields.
