Pedestrian Reaches Pittsburg After Long Walk Westward
Charles Kissinger began the trek October 8 to walk to Pittsburgh. He traveled 150 miles on foot, 50 by truck and auto, and 80 by train. His route included Hulls Tavern, Hummelstown, Duncannon, Harrisburg, Marysville, Millerstown, New Port, Lewistown, Mifflintown, Huntingdon, State Forest Reserve, Hollidaysburg, Williamsburg, Johnstown, Lilly, and South Fork. He described rough mountain detours, sightings of two wild turkeys, and noted South Fork as the dirtiest town seen while Johnstown left a mixed impression. He considered Pennsylvania the best state he saw and planned to add memories to an art gallery.
