Taught S. S. Over Fifty Years Samuel J. Lewis
Samuel J. Lewis of West Chester has spent over 50 years teaching the Methodist Sunday school there. Born in Berks County, he began in 1864 in public schools, later joining Du Pont, and moved to West Chester in 1873 where he has since taught or served as a substitute. One pupil, Irvin Alger, became a University of California professor, and a former pupil praised him as “over 80 years old, and as young as any of us.”
