Elephant Breeding, Cellophane History Hitched to War Efforts
Elephant reproduction remains poorly understood with captive breeding rare. At Copenhagen one elephant produced three or four calves over many years, gestation about 22 months, breeding starting at thirty until ninety. Cellophane originated 1908 by Brandenberger, perfected by 1912, later controlled by the French government during World War I for gas mask eye-pieces before Du Ponts acquired U.S. rights in 1923, finding use in hats, fishing bait, and more.

Gathering for Fifth Rabbit Wedding Anniversary
An Exchange note quips on courage amid danger and predicts a grand family celebration for Grandma and Grandpa Rabbit’s fifth wedding anniversary. It humorously suggests a box supper where each member brings a lettuce leaf, framed by a statistician’s forecast of a vast turnout.
