St Pauls Lutheran unanimously selected Rev. William F. Fleck of Littlestown Adams county to succeed Rev. George D Clarke. Fleck to assume local pastorate likely by late April after synod action. Also notes Neffsville congregation separating from local charge with East Petersburg and godfather roles at recent baptisms by Rev Crosland.
The July Fourth celebration committee at Lintz Springs park announced the Spring Garden band from York will headline the event. The 45 piece ensemble is regarded as one of the state’s top orchestras and will be among the largest bands to perform here. The committee praised the selection.
Dr H A Cappy president of Ideal Chocolate Company dined with Vice President and Mrs Marshall during a southern trip. He agreed to supply cocoa to the ten month old adopted by the Marshalls and sent the first lot last week. Also notes Rev Jonas Hess’s 77th birthday and local reactions to Buffalo nickel imagery. Donations pour in for Lancaster General Hospital and new millinery at Ditzinger’s.
Elizabeth Sahm 8 Sahm, longtime borough schools teacher, died after a recent illness. The 48 year old resided on South Broad Street with her mother and sister and taught fifth and sixth grades. Funeral services were set for 2 PM at her home and Machpelah Cemetery with Rev. J. B. Baker officiating.
Ex Senator Frank J. Cannon spoke to a large Moravian audience on Wednesday evening praising U S soldiers in France as the finest and urging victory by air power. He argued Germany is beaten and called for an anti polygamy constitutional amendment, with Dr James S Martin supporting. A Red Cross Belgian relief drive and a Linden Hall benefit for April 5 were announced along with a local stage production The Rejuvenation of Aunt Mary.
Samuel Swarr a farmer from southwestern Warwick township died at his home Monday afternoon after a weeklong illness. He was 68 years old and a native of East Petersburg, son of the late Rudy Swart. He was survived by his wife Susan na Ruch and a stepsister. The funeral was held at his home with services in the East Petersburg Mennonite church and burial in the adjoining cemetery.
Gabriel Beamesderfer of Warwick township died at Manheim early Sunday morning at age 87 from general debility. He was born in Penn township, married Lavina Franck in 1854, and lived in Warwick until Mrs Beamesderfer’s death, then moved to Manheim. A former school teacher and 23-year Warwick township school director with 16 years as auditor, he remained a Republican and Lutheran. Survived by Horace, Jerome, Mrs Emanuel Hess, and Ursula. Funeral services were at Kiesel Hill Lutheran church with interment in the adjacent cemetery conducted by Rev. Knittie.
Mrs Mary A Arnold widow of Henry Ti Arnold of Adamstown died at United Zion Home north of town last Friday at 5 10 P M aged 75 years 7 days after a complication of diseases She had lived at the home six months A son George H Arnold of Adamstown survives Funeral was held Tuesday with interment at Adamstown.
George Hibshman former Pennsylvania legislator dies at his home near Ephrata after heart trouble and complications. He was elected in 1907 and served six terms in the state legislature. funeral held at the Hibshman homestead with interment on the ancestral lands.
Went for More Autos Jahn FP. Longenecker and several sub-dealers traveled to New York this week to bring back nine or more Chevrolet cars to Lancaster county. They have delivered about 100 Chevrolets in the past month, with sales described as fast. The piece also advertises Arrow Collars and various clothing styles at Lititz Clothing & Shoe Store in Narvon and Newton.
A long list of visitors and residents share Sunday stays and trips. Philadelphia, Lancaster, Reading, Annville, and Marysville are represented as relatives and friends gather, with trips to Florida and Augusta Georgia noted.
A new detective agency has taken root in the borough with prominent citizens as members. Chief William Henry Greek is not involved and the group operates on a meal-for-fee basis. They recently solved a wood-theft case from Springs Hotel lawn and are pursuing a coal theft mystery at Dr. Rosenberg's moving picture theatre.

The gathering heard remarks by Herbert W Collingwood of New York editor of Rural New Yorker and announced several other officer appointments as spring weather and farm life dominated the event.
The Church of the Brethren Home near Neffsville marked Mrs. Sarah Miller's hundredth birthday with a day of congratulations and a special evening service. Surviving children Harry Mohler, Annetta Enck, and Mary Miller joined her. Elizabeth Rupp attended but could not be present. Mrs. Miller, long affiliated with the church, credits moderation, activity, and temperance for longevity. She recalls pioneer transport and weaving, and traveled as far as the Mississippi. She is friendly with Governor Brumbaugh. Pfantz Bros. advertise a one dollar sale that week.
A batch of local servicemen receive furloughs or return home before deployment. Corporal Paul Badorf of Company A, 109 Machine Gun Battalion, Camp Hancock, Augusta, Georgia, visits his parents for ten days. Several others, including sailors and a merchant mariner, are in town or awaiting Camp Meade calls.
A Record reporter visits Joseph P. Miller and learns son Paul, a gun pointer aboard the battleship New Hampshire, surprised his parents with a home visit. He describes work high up pointing smokestacks and notes coaling days feel like holidays. The ship recently helped another vessel from a rock during a storm and two relatives of the late Rev. M S Saul sail aboard. Paul plans a longer leave soon.
Edwin Wissler reports being alive and well at Camp Meade after receiving a second vaccination shot. He describes daily drill, quarantine due to measles, limited mingling, appreciation for Y M C A and Red Cross support, and anticipation of mail at 22 30 and 5 P M with Friday letters from home.
