Old Method of Wood Smoking Gives Way to Patent Smoke
Farm notes describe the shift from traditional wood smoking to patent smoke for meat curing. Druggist L N Moyer notes strong sales of patent smoke in Mt Hope origin, with chemists praising its quality. Creosote, produced in Mt Hope tanks after wood alcohol distillation, is the key preserving element. Old smoking dries meat while patent smoke preserves juices, though some prefer natural smoke flavor.
