Consumer dollars split at farmers institute talk
J. Gilbert of the Harrisburg Bureau of Remarks spoke at the Cedarville farmers institute on how a dollar is divided. He said the farmer nets about 36 cents, with 6 to 7 cents for shipment, wholesaler 10 cents, retailer 83 cents, and transport consuming about 14 cents. Spillman argued farmers are both capitalists and workers and urged cutting middlemen to narrow price gaps for consumers.

Ephrata to Get New Silk Mill in Brick Five-Story Plant
A brick and stone silk mill five stories tall, sized 136 by 245 feet, is planned for Ephrata with fireproof construction and a target occupancy by August. A New York firm with a Patterson New Jersey factory will fund most costs, while George W. The project requires 350 workers and the Silk firm will finance the balance and install all machinery. It previously sought Lititz but found limited encouragement.
