Coal price rise blamed on monopoly and railroads

The Bureau of Labor reports that coal price increases were driven by railroad and mining monopolies. Wages for miners rose by 4 million dollars, while consumers paid over triple that through higher coal prices. The Interstate Commerce Commission is urged to force freight-rate cuts. Separately, George W. Boyd is promoted to passenger traffic manager of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Other local items note school board and lyceum activities, moves, factory plans, a fourth annual parents day, and Easter festival dates at local Sunday schools.
