Greatest Hail Storm Recalled From 1888 May 29
The town recalls the greatest hail storm in history from May 29, 1888, around 7 pm. Hail stones weighed up to four ounces and measured 9 inches in circumference with an 8 inch length hail at Kissel Hill. Tile roofing on Mary Dixon Memorial chapel and the spire suffered damage, with Linden Hall losses in the hundreds of dollars. Panic and prayer marked the scene as residents faced the storm.
