Caring For Breeding Flock
Protect the breeding flock from cold and overfeeding to maintain fertility. Keep roosters from hogging feed to prevent hens from falling out of condition. At night place breeding fowls in a partly covered box or crate and check crops to ensure they stay full. Catch and feed rogue roosters separately once daily to maintain overall health.
Beet Crops Flourish In Light Soils Without Fresh Manure
Beet is an obliging vegetable that yields well in lighter and sandy soils and does not require fresh manure. For best greens plant early indoors, but avoid breaking the taproot when transplanting for roots. Seed beets come bulky from seed balls, and shallow planting in light soil aids emergence. Companion planting with slow and fast crops helps balance nourishment and can protect yields from mid summer heat.
Drain muck and peat land by open ditches first
