Coal oil stove blast ignites shed near Pennville home
A coal oil stove exploded last Friday evening, setting a woodshed and nearby frame structures at the home of Phares Graybill in Pennville on fire. Neighbors quenched the blaze with water before the Lititz Fire Company arrived. the interior of the shed was charred while the house and barn nearby remained largely intact.

Building Notes On Liberty Street Move To Make Four Modern Homes
A row of frame houses on Liberty street owned by J. M. Miller and Rev. Jacob Hershey is moved to the rear of the lot to clear space for four modern stuccoed dwellings. Ney Dehme is altering his North Covey street home with a rear kitchen and balcony. Shey-Seaman Co. began a bungalow for Charles Matthews at Mt Hope, while he quarryes granite rock nearby. An old Jacob Minnich house on East Main street now owned by Mrs. Tra Nies is being remodeled. A wooden block found inside lists builders and carpenters from 1876, including Means and Kauffman, Augustus Enck, Frank Enek, Samuel Stark, Henry Seaher, Samuel Seaber, with later references to Evans and Emanuel Kauffman. Also reports Warwick House sales: cows to $91, pigs to $11.60, rabbits 65 cents, chickens up to 88 cents, potatoes and apples sold, and other items totaling many dollars.

A Lititz town meeting of Sunday Schools plans the Lititz Springs picnic on Thursday August Sth 23 with many games free coffee and ice cream for scholars. The Lititz Band will provide music. A Moravian picnic last week drew a large crowd with coffee barrels and entertainment including obstacle and parade. Major Cameron Lane of the 304th Medical Regiment will depart Sunday for two weeks at Camp Meade.

Rev. and Mrs. J.W.G. Hershey returned from the Church of the Brethren annual conference in Calgary Alberta and continued to the Pacific coast visiting national parks and cities. They traveled 1600 miles from Chicago, took six weeks away, visited Washington, Victoria, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Pasadena, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Petrified Forests, Santa Fe, and saw friends in Kansas and Ohio.
