Two Carlisle graduates seek postal jobs in town

Items note two Carlisle High School graduates who recently passed the postal examination and will apply for letter carrier positions in Carlisle. The Chelaney station has seen a fourth break in as many months with theft from a telephone box and the agent’s money drawer. Harrisburg reports no typhoid cases this month amid last year’s July hospital surge. A near Oriole resident was bitten by a copperhead in a field, collapsing at home after the fright. A black snake sighting in Lock Haven prompted a search and eventual kill. Mrs. David H. Wilson, formerly Annie Schmehl of Lebanon, succeeds her late husband as editor of Municipal Facts in Denver. Blair county reports abundant sport for fall, with rabbits and quail taken by automobile parties and on trolleys between Altoona and Hollidaysburg. The Runkle family reunion is set for August 15 at Hershey Park with a long list of committee members from multiple counties. A lighthearted joke section notes a dog burying an order, and a cartoonish quip about ball team cuts and cookie‑cutter kneecaps.

Despite a larger harvest since 1906, consumer costs are not anticipated to fall, since demand rose after the 1911 price rise and dealers insist supply will not outpace growing demand.

Frog raising not profitable says State Zoologist

State Zoologist Surface declares frog farming unprofitable after a correspondent asked about artificial propagation. He notes no one has made a profit, frogs cannibalize in crowded pens, and draining swamps to grow celery or horseradish is a better use of land.
