Fourth of July in Lititz 1884 A memorable day
The Lititz Fourth of July celebration in 1884 drew record crowds despite rain and heat. Four bands performed, speeches by D W Seltzer and J Marriott Brosins highlighted patriotism, there were festive processions, fireworks, and bustling vendors. Rain disrupted trains and street activity, with many seeking shelter and boats, while rail service faced crowding and delays. Local notices mention residents traveling, appointments, and upcoming events including a grand musical and dramatic entertainment and a new local baseball club.
