Moravian Memorial Day Service Honors Hus Martyrdom
Lititz Moravians held a twilight service at the graveyard for the five hundredth anniversary of John Hus martyrdom. Rev. E H Hagen led the event with hymns, a wood fragment from Hus’s cell, and a psalm reading by a student. A morning service echoed the theme with a sermon from Hosea. The Hus Memorial Fund collected $110.62 with a $10 contributor from the Ladies Sewing Society. Saturday market featured plentiful beans and peas, eggs at 20 cents a dozen, and butter at 29 cents per pound.
