John W. Leininger of Reading, a fireman on an extra freight train for the P and R railroad, was struck in the head by a coal car at Math's coal yard while leaning from the tender to view a signal. He fell beside the track, was taken to a doctor, and required stitches for a gash above the left eye and other bruises. He rode home on the 4:05 passenger train that afternoon. A bystander, Lloyd Stauffer, and the engineer were unaware of the accident until after the train had moved. The incident occurred about two o'clock Sunday.
W Dietrich of this place, who has stocked streams in the northern end of the county for years, will soon receive about 8000 game fish from the State Fish Department at Wasl. The trout, 6 to 10 inches long, are said to be superior to hatchery stock. Dietrich does not take payment, doing it for the sport.
After the regular Sunday school session at St Pauls Evangelical Lutheran, children organized a choir for ages 8 to 165. About forty expressed willingness to join, to be instructed by Miss Helen Baker. They will provide music at occasions celebrated for children during the year, under Pastor Rev. Geo D Clarke’s guidance to boost interest in religious services.

Mrs. Alice M. Hess wife of Michael Hess died Monday morning at about 5 30 at her home along the Lititz and Rothsville turnpike after a week illness. She was born near Weidmannville and was a daughter of Reuben Kurtz. Survived by her husband two daughters Sadie and Mary and siblings John Jeremiah Adaline Keller Clara Wommer Silas Bard Kate Doster Lem Farlow. Funeral Saturday at 6 at home and 10 at Rothsville Lutheran Church with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Reverend H E Hagen to officiate.
Mrs Mary Young age 77 died at her Pleasant View home last Friday from infirmities of old age. Widow of Civil War veteran Qbed Young she is survived by five children Matthias John Bamnel Maria Robinson Emma Grube and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral from her home Monday followed by services at St Johns Lutheran Church Bricker ville with interment in adjoining cemetery. Revs Heitler and Shantz officiated.
Mrs Mary Snavely wife of Henry D Snavely of near Brickerville died at Lebanon Sanitarium Sunday afternoon after an operation aged 46 years 5 months 9 days She was born to the late intern and Mrs Benjamin Stauffer and lived all her life at her home Survived by husband five children Clayton Himer Harry Benjamin Abram and Mary all at home Funeral held Thursday morning from the home with services at Hammer Creek meeting house Interment in adjoining cemetery Rev Noah Lands and Jacob Hershey officiated
Daniel W. Nissley aged eighty, a retired Sporting Hill resident in Rapho township, died at home on Friday from infirmities of old age and heart trouble. A cooper by trade, he spent twenty five years in the produce business and retired seven years ago. He leaves a wife and children Daniel M Nissley of Sporting Hill John M Nissley of Altoona Harvey M Nissley of Chicago and Mrs Annie Brandt of Mechanicsville plus a stepsister Mrs Fannie Miller of Sporting Hill and sixteen grandchildren. Funeral services and interment were held Tuesday morning at Sporting Hill.
Andrew Miller died at General Hospital Lancaster on Monday from a mule's kick while working near Nefisville. Miller, 55, a German native, was employed as a farm hand. he was taken to the hospital after the injury and died days later. He is survived by one brother and two sisters.
Clayton Ritter a tenant farmer from near Lime Rock was killed when a southbound freight train struck him at about 1 05 PM Tuesday as he walked along the track after delivering tobacco with Albert Longenecker. An inquest cited either a fall or vertigo as cause, noting his watch and money were found on him. burial set at Kreider meeting house with Rexs. Gibbel Fahnstocks Cassel to assist. The report also notes a light winter snow and unusually cold week following.
Charles Hackman and Wayne Hackman of Pine Hill Warwick township faced charges for interfering with the health officer. The case was entered for a hearing before Alderman Bressler in Lancaster on Tuesday.
STRITLY PERSONAL items list a flurry of weekend visits and travels. John Gibbel of Reading spent Sunday with his parents while Rev Chas D Kreider and wife enjoyed several days in Bethlehem and Nazareth. Others include Thomas Smith of the Springs Hotel, John Evans and children visiting Manheim, and Paul Lacy home from Penn State Blate College. Numerous family reunions and expected moves fill the column as neighbors host, travel, and host again.
In Lancaster common pleas court Wayne Seldomridge of Lititz sued Willis Gibbel of Brunnerville for $83.81 claiming a two acre tobacco share contract. The jury found for the plaintiff and awarded $48.76 after Gibbel argued Seldomridge failed to perform his part. Gibbel had paid $25 and kept the crop proceeds.
The Glen and Mandolin Club of Franklin and Marshall College Lancaster will give four concerts in Linden Hall auditorium Friday evening. Proceeds benefit Lititz High School library. Linden Hall Seminary girls open basketball season Saturday at 2:30 PM facing Bethlehem Seminary. Erla Garber, daughter of Mr and Mrs E L Garber, is a local team member.
Rev John W Meminger D D of Lancaster will lecture on The Art of Conversation Saturday evening at St Luke Reformed Church. Dr Meminger is a renowned lecturer and is expected to draw a full house. Before the lecture, the young ladies will perform a pantomime and a silver offering will be taken for the Ladies Aid.
Wagner of this place keeps a Rhode Island Red hen praised as a champion egg producer. It recently laid three remarkable eggs measuring 8 by 6 1/2 inches in circumference and weighing about a quarter of a pound each. The pullet hatched last May, making the feat more notable.
On Saturday evening about 6 30 two young men secured a team of Aaron G Hershey started for Rathaville to attend the fair. At the Cedar and East Main streets corner the horse became fractious and kicked. The dasher and shafts of the wagon were broken and the harness torn though no one was injured. They rode the train to the fair and had a good time.
Relieved of his pocketbook, B A Hadsell, guest at Springs Hotel, was jostled by several men in front of the Centre Square trolley waiting room on Saturday afternoon. He paid no attention, then found his pocketbook missing containing $6, as police investigate Bushong.
On Thursday last, Bell Telephone Company arranged to relocate its exchange from the present Joce vion in Mrs Eliza Van Vlecks building on East Main Street to rooms above Mr Bombergers hardware store on South Broad Street. Buch and Hassler real estate agents will move to the adjoining room in the same building. The move has the approval of local business men as it places the exchange in the midst of town business and is centrally located.
Our Market notes good condition of roads last Saturday boosted attendance at the local market. Farmers arrived with several tables occupied as buyers were numerous. Poultry was scarce yet sold quickly and farmers offered choice pork cuts for hog killing season.
