Two Fatal Accidents In Family At Reading Rail Line
Within eighteen weeks two sons of Mr and Mrs Lemon Hartranft of Reading formerly Rome residents died in rail accidents. William Eckert a 24 year old brakeman died after being squeezed between two freight cars on the Reading railway. His brother Charles also died in a similar incident. Charles leaves a wife and son plus parents. Four other brothers and two sisters survive. one brother has resigned while the others continue in railroad work. The family moved from Rome to Ephorata then Reading. A step son John Hartranft works at Kissinger’s pretzel bakery and Moses Eckert of Stroh avenue is a relative.
