Mennonites Emigrate as Coffin Trade Upsets London Undertakers
The item notes Mennonites from Russia moving to Minnesota and settling in the West, praised as thrifty farmers but opposed to military service. It also reports London undertakers facing competition from coffins sold cheaply by egg-packers from France and Belgium, plus rising morphine use among women and a chiding view of New York State Senate expenses. The piece closes with obituaries on publisher John Blair Lemur and details on local elections, railway snow disruptions, and widespread sleighing reports.
