Lititz Named Birthplace of the Pretzel at State Convention
Lititz was officially recognized as the birthplace of the pretzel when manufacturers organized the Pennsylvania Pretzel Manufacturers Association at the Pennsyl vania Bakers' Association convention in Harrisburg. Representatives from multiple towns attended as the industry noted a $5,000,000 yearly business and widespread world distribution. Lancaster County ranked seventh in state production for 1930 despite Lititz’s claim. The convention noted beer prohibition had not reduced pretzel sales.
