Apples Hung on Christmas Trees Years Ago in Lititz
Four waxy yellow and pink apples once used to ornament grandfather’s Christmas trees were sent from Philadelphia by Samuel E. Seaber and resembled local umfer apples. Once sold at 70 cents a quart last year 40 cents a dozen this year. Henry Sturgis recalls similar fruit around Lititz and notes few trees remain.

Aaron Nies Dies at 80 in Lititz Community
Aaron Nies longtime Lititz resident died Wednesday at age 80 after living in Lancaster recent months. He is survived by two sisters Mrs. Aaron Habecker and Mrs. William Mathers of Lititz. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 PM at Spacht's funeral parlors East Main Street. Interment will be in Longenecker's Cemetery.

Greased Pig Caught At The Warwick House Sale
A 13 pound greased pig was released during a Warwick House sale drawing a crowd of over 300 as it was chased across an open field. After about twenty attempts, Darry Boyer ultimately lifted the pig by tail and ears to claim the win. The event noted wide sales of potatoes, apples, bananas, rabbits, cigars, carpet, buffet, and stockings among many items.

Emancipation Day for Lititz Pikes Passes Toll Free
Emancipation Day in Lititz on December 30 1926 freed the Lititz and Lititz Lexington turnpikes from toll after negotiations among the State turnpike commission county commissioners and Conestoga Traction Company. The roads opened toll free from the first gate near the stockyards bridge with notices posted. The gate on the Lititz Lexington pike was closed toll free but the keeper was missing. The sale price for the two roads was 74000 dollars leaving two toll roads still active in Lancaster county the New Holland Pike and Fruitville pikes. The Lititz to Brickerville road is deteriorating and motorists favor the Clay route north while the Lititz to Lancaster road deteriorates and will require repairs by the State Highway Department.

A Christmas afternoon live bird shoot at the Lititz Rod and Gun Club drew sixteen marksmen as 160 birds were released. Several escaped the boundary and were tackled by outside shooters. Millport reports reveal Levi Hollinger, 28, on a prolonged spree leaving his wife Mrs Hollinger and four children without food or fuel. A three year old girl neared death and was hospitalized as relatives cared for two to seven year olds. Humane Society officer Larry L. Martzall described three weeks of drinking, furniture sales, and theft of fuel. Stephen Kopp of Millport took in the remaining family members after rescue. Hollinger jailed on cruelty charges awaiting hearing.

Brothers in 90s die on same day in Lancaster area
Cyrus Dissinger aged 90 died after midnight on December 30 at his home in Quentin and Franklin Dissinger aged 92 died before 3 AM at his Rexmont home. Cyrus managed the Wreeman farm at Pare for nearly 50 years and Franklin ran the Robert Coleman farm at Cornwall. Franklin lived in Brickerville and made shoes for many years and belonged to the Lititz United Evangelical church.
