Cabbages and Chrysoprase In a High Prairie House
Selina arrives as a youthful schoolteacher to Klaas Pool's Holland-American home in High Prairie Illinois. She meets Maartje, the Pool children Geertje and Jozina, and Roelf, a farm boy. The room is neat but stark, a Holland bride chest reveals heritage, and Selina senses a strange mix of danger and promise as she faces a hungry, bustling household and a growing, electric tension with Roelf.
