Banks urged to prohibit overdrafts by Comptroller demand
The Comptroller of the Currency sent a protest against overdrafts with a request for bank directors to pass a resolution banning them and to forward it to the Comptroller. Officials questioned the authority to demand such action, considering consulting counsel and the Clearing House Association for guidance. The notice mentions Stern Manufacturing Co of Elizabethtown employing twenty-five workers and twenty machines. The piece ends noting rising corporate advertising and promoting newspaper subscriptions at $1.00 per year.
