Adeste Fideles Used in Christmastide Benedictions in Europe

The Adeste Fideles hymn, beloved since the late 18th century, was sung at Christmastide benedictions in France and England and reportedly at the Portuguese legation in London by 1797. The most popular setting is linked to John Reading, Winchester organist, with attribution to St Bonaventure but not found in his works. Likely French or German origin, inviting the faithful to Bethlehem to worship the newborn Savior. Prautz Bros. ends big Dollar Aluminum Sale this Saturday.
