Fireworks Killed 111 Finished Survey Shows
A survey by the American Museum of Safety and the National Committee for the Prevention of Blindness reports 111 deaths and 1,030 injuries from this year’s fireworks across 500 cities and 36 states. Most victims were children. 800 injuries on July 4 and over 200 before or after Independence Day. Only 30 occurred at public celebrations, with 62 arrests. Cause of deaths included clothing ignited by sparklers and poisoning from firecrackers. St. Louis had the largest casualty list. The study cites restrictive laws as effective in New York City and Chicago, and notes many states still have few restrictions. Read the Record-$1.50 a year EXECUTOR'S NOTICE Estate of Mary M. Gantz.
