Farm Notes and grape cuttings experiments in 19th century county farming
A local farmer offers sixty dollars a month plus gasoline up to a limit to attract a farm hand. J W Bruckart reports starting 300 grape canes from trimmings with several varieties including King grape, using a sand bed and moist conditions to root cuttings. Aphis are rare this season, unlike last spring, and ants farm the aphids for honeydew, moving them around trees for protection against winter.
