Trout season opens despite gray dawn and high streams
Anglers flocked to streams Monday for opening trout season as rain kept water high. Lewis Sturgis led with 16 speckled beauties from Spring creek after about three hours. Others, including Robert Furlow and Frank Sturgis, also posted catches while Lititz creek remained largely unfishable due to contamination. Local anglers call for changing the catch size to six inches and a daily limit of forty, arguing small fish are wasted and often die when returned. Atwood Kreider chased violators near Brubaker's dam, while other anglers reported forty catfish at Hammer Creek and seven eels at Conestoga creek last Friday night.
