Local ledger notes and social items from the town
A column of brief notes reports a pair of lost boy’s stockings found at the post office, gifts received for Mrs. Hartranft’s birthday in Rome, and twenty three Stevens Industrial School graduates. It notes drown chickens from Wallace Meiskey’s flock, a Lancaster move by John Bruckart and family, church sociables led by Rev E S Hagen, and visits by Rev Samuel Groenfeldt. It mentions travel delays for Elizabeth Grosh, first shad in town with prices, Arbor Day proclamations in Pennsylvania, cheap tobacco purchases, and early April bank activity. March temperatures averaged 45 degrees with a high of 17 and a low of 13. A local youth, Robert Grosh, graduates as a pattern maker and moves to Philadelphia. A new Lancaster trolley schedule goes into effect, eggs 17 cents, butter 35 cents, dressed chickens scarce. Community thanks are extended for flowers during illness and bereavement. Jacob Bowman, injured with two broken arms, is home after many visitors. The Lyceum closes the season with a debate on naval expansion and a March minstrel show by the Boys Recreation Club.
