Separately in Vincennes, Brown Shoe Co. workers vote 317 to 92 for the Boot and Shoe Workers Union as bargaining agent.
Ralph W. Eaton 17 of Bucksport had his driving license suspended and fined ten dollars after three hours and forty minutes from issuance for traveling 78 miles an hour in a 15 mile an hour zone. He faced penalties issued by the court in Bangor, Maine.
The Citizen office received a bouquet of large rose pom-poms and dahlias from Mr. and Mrs. Martin Holscher of Fifth street northeast.
A wayfarer offered to play his violin in exchange for a meal at Mrs. John Nitschke’s home in Fremont Ohio. Mrs. Nitschke accepted the musical barter as payment.
Gerald W. Landis takes a temporary leave of absence and Roy Williams with James Baldy Goodman will coach the team for the rest of the season. Williams has six years as an assistant here. Danville Indiana September 28 Jack Kennedy and Merrill Miller of Linton join Central Normal College football for a Danville clash with Ball State Saturday afternoon. Kennedy shifts to halfback Miller to end while Brown and Strahle start at center. CNC lost 6 0 at Charleston in their opener. Ball State fields a heavier lineup across backfield and line. Probable CNC lineup Swartz Scott Kennedy Wallace Miller Andrews Falls Hendrick Jones Hess Kelley.
The Sherwood Safety chapter will hold a meeting at 7 o clock Thursday evening in the basement of the Saron Reformed church. All members are urged to attend and a program of entertainment is planned along with the special speaker.
A warning issued by Mayor E. V. Bull cautions Linton property owners to stock coal before street paving may block access. Planned concrete paving includes Sixth Seventh between A streets, Fourth between Vincennes and A, and Third between A southeast and B southeast. Paving, funded by the city and the Federal Works Progress Administration, proceeds with favorable weather and daily progress.

In Smithton Newfoundland on Sept 28 A W Hanson reports his beer loving groundhog Joe was killed in a hit and run. Hanson says Joe would not have been drunk since he had not tasted beer since the previous morning and had sought spilled beer at his garage daily.
Miss Virginia Lee Michael of Jasonville was admitted for X ray treatment Tuesday afternoon and dismissed Tuesday evening. Maurice Hennette of West Linton had a minor operation this morning. Miss Ruby Fordyce of Bloomfield was admitted Tuesday evening for treatment. Ora Thomas of Lyons underwent a minor operation this morning.
A trainload of American refugees arrived in Zurich from Czechoslovakia today, many lacking passports. In Strasbourg, France, about 80,000 of its 200,000 residents fled toward the interior, traveling along highways and railways to escape Germany across the Rhine.
London Sept 28 the Czech legation denied rumors that President Edouard Benes of Czechoslovakia had resigned.
A field of fourteen first aid teams including from Linton and Prince ton will compete Saturday afternoon in Sullivan for state honors at the annual First Aid and Accident Prevention contest. An expected 7 000 to 10 000 visitors will attend the event hosted by multiple mining and safety groups.

Mrs. Harley Ham, who recently underwent a major operation in Bloomington hospital, has been returned to her home in this city Tuesday evening. She is reported to be getting along satisfactorily.
The Indiana state prison commission commuted the terms of William Calvert and Raymond Christie from 10 to 25 years to 5 to 25 years for robbery in Greene circuit court. They will be eligible for parole in February 1940 after admitting the Midland Indiana grocery store holdup on January 26 1935. They were arrested in Worthington by State Policeman Ira Craig.
The Linton postoffice joins nationwide observance from October 2 to October 8 to promote writing letters home. Local schools clubs and organizations will be urged to have people away from home write letters. Postmaster Wolford said posters will highlight the event and emphasize sending owed letters. Ramsey S. Black directs the national observance for the postal department.
The Linton fire department rushed to Robbin's garage on First Street Southeast around 12:30 PM to tackle a car fire. Flames endangered other stored vehicles but caused only the top of the car to be burned. the fire was promptly controlled and the loss is covered by insurance.
Thel bert O Laws and his wife waited at a St Louis railroad crossing when Laws leaped onto a freight car ladder. His foot slipped and he fell under the train, severing his right leg.
Eleven days remain to register or transfer registrations to be eligible for the November 8 general election. The deadline is midnight October 10 for registrations or transfers.
