Sparks from a welder's torch caused an oil tank blast three miles west of Evansville. Victims Edwin Hunt 26 of Henderson Kentucky and Rodney Bullock 20 of Wadesville were killed. Hunt was welding one of seven tanks in the storage area.
Indianapolis man Arthur Goss, 31, was fatally wounded Wednesday afternoon when he fled from officers serving a warrant at a southeast side apartment complex. Police say he was shot once in the face and once in the chest, then rushed to Wishard Memorial Hospital where he died during emergency treatment.
A truck driver escaped injury when a semi loaded with chemicals for E I Lilly Co crashed and burned on the Near West Side. The rig en route from Lafayette overturned near the I 70 interchange at Harding Street, spilling sodium nitrate. Fire officials said no chemicals were toxic.
Mostly sunny and cool conditions follow a cool front that moved through Indiana with scattered light showers. Temperatures rose from the 30s to the upper 60s north and lower 80s south, with cooler air returning by weekend and a risk of showers on Sunday.
